Best Survival Knife Guide, What's the best knife?

As a beginner it can be difficult to choose from all the different knives that are available. One thing you want to first decide upon is, how much you are able to spend on your knife, before buying the best survival knife for you. Setting your budget can narrow down the amounts you have to choose from.

Once you have set your budget, you will need to narrow the search down by choosing what you actually want to use the knife for. Many survival knives have different uses and are better in certain areas than others, generally a survival knife should be able to do the following:

  • Cutting/Slicing
  • Digging
  • Splitting
  • Self-Defense
  • First Aid Tool
  • Food Prep
  • Shelter Building
  • Fire Making
  • Hunting Weapon
  • Prying Tool
  • Signaling
  • Hammering
  • Make-Shift Screwdriver
I have always prefered the Swiss army knife, but then i only use it as a gadget for when im camping. A swiss army knife wouldnt be much use in the wilderness of Australia.

Buying a survival knife!

Many people across the world either like to go trekking in the wilderness and in some areas of the world are quite dangerous. Having a survival knife can be the difference between surviving and not. If you take Australia for example there are some dangerous creatures, not having a weapon can be seriously dangerous.

Not just the fact there are creatures but you get trapped in anything, some branches, and having a knife a decent hunters knife could save your life.

What should you look for in a survival knife?

Well the first is durability you need a decent survival knife to able to last the full distance, its no good spending a fair amount of money on a knife and it to break when you need it the most.

Second is if it is utility friendly, not just is a survival knife there for cutting. But like a good Swiss army knife it has extras like tin opener and useful utilities you may just need, for whatever reason. Some good utilities a decent survival knife may have are items like a compass, matches, knife sharpener etc.

Third is it should be very flexible and quite a decent size, you may need such a knife to take on quite big tasks and a small knife wont be able to handle such tasks.

Buying Professional Chefs Knives

As a Chef it is important to have a decent set of your own knives, a set of knives you trust and can rely on. To have such a set comes from experience and from testing some knives out. As you grown in stature as a chef, so will you experience! You will then know which knives are best and which suit you best with your techniques.

Even in domestic kitchens, professorial chefs knives are becoming more and more frequently seen. As more and more people are choosing to cook at home and be more healthy. Wannabe chefs need the right tools. If you know where to look you can get a good set of kitchen knives for responsible price.

The internet is a wonderful thing, not is is so easy to buy items online, but you get peoples advice without even asking for it. Many of the top shopping websites let you submit comments on specific products. Reading personal reviews generally sways from either buying or not buying the product. A product descriptions is always going to be biased to the product. But a person review will be truthful!

Taking a knife when Scuba Diving!

Have you ever been scuba diving? Scuba diving can be very dangerous, so many things can go wrong when your so far under the water an it is best to be prepared for anything. One item that is a must apart from oxygen is to take a very sharp knife.

When you are under the water there are many predators that are looking for there next meal, having a knife with you could be the next thing that saves your life. I would like to stress to anybody wanting to go scuba diving and now getting a little worried. The chances of such things happening are slim, it is just best to be prepared for the worst.

Not only are there predators under the water but there is so much junk dropped in our waters by us people that, you may get caught up in it. Just like animals and nature do, we could be our own downfall.

You can buy knives specifically for diving which are called scuba knives (funny enough) wont go rusty, so you can ensure that knife will last for a very long time and be your trusty friends should you need it.

The different types of hunting knives!

When going hunting it is important to own a decent hunting knife. For a novice knowing what a decent hunting knife is, maybe a bit daunting. But with a little help from me, i will talk you into choosing the right hunting knife.

Fixed Blade Knives
A fixed blade knife is a knife that doesn't fold up or slide out. It sometimes known as a sheath knife. Fixed blade knives are typically stronger than other knives because of the tang, the amount the blade goes into the handle and the fact it has no moving parts.

Folding Knives
A folding blade is a blade the folds up for convenience  The blade folds up into the handle and does so via a pivot. Many folding knives know have mechanisms to stop the blade folding and accidently causing injuries. The type of mechanism varies from on each different blade, its best to test blades for personal preference.

Pocket Knives
A pocket knife is as it says on the tin, a knife that can be stored in your pocket. It can have one or more blades that will normally fold inside the handle just like a folding knife.

The most famous pocket knife is the Swiss army knife, which has loads of little extras that you may need when outside in the wilderness.

Lockback Knives
A lockback knife is a folding knife which locks into position, it normally only has one blade that has a spring lock mechanism. This mechanism is designed to keep the blade open, which helps prevent the blade from closing and causing accidents.

You would normally have to press a button so that you can close the blade in to its handle.

If you are looking for top quality blades consider looking at Benchmade knives they have created some top quality blades from 1988 up until present date.
