What are Hunting Knives?

Sometimes people get confused between hunting knives and hunting daggers. A hunting dagger is primarily used to kill a wild animal. the hunting knife is used to skin or prepare the animal for food. 

There is also the survival knife which is an adapted hunting knife which can be used like a hatchet or a machete. These knives are may also be called camp knives.

Design: The main purpose of a hunting knife is to cut rather than stab. So they generally only have one sharpened edge. Most hunting knives have a curved blade, with a straight part which is used to cut through the meat after skinning. Some Hunting knives have a gut hook as well.

Types: There are two types of hunting knives, a fixed blade, and a folding blade.

Fixed Blade: Fixed blade knives are definitely more dependable for hunting than a folding blade for its strength. 

Folding Blade: Folding blades are safer to carry, once folded there are no sharp edges making iut comfortable to put in your pocket. They have the advantage of being easier to hide.

I have always prefered the Swiss army knife, but then i only use it as a gadget for when im camping. A swiss army knife wouldnt be much use in the wilderness of Australia.
